Remediation – Corner Express
Global was contracted by the owner of a gas station to serve as the Qualified Underground Storage Tank Consultant (QUSTC) in response to a diesel fuel release. Three feet of free product was discovered in a groundwater monitoring well. Global conducted initial response activities, supervised the removal of the piping from the diesel system, conducted free product recovery tests, and assessed free product removal alternatives.
The extent of the free product was investigated and delineated. Global conducted weekly free product recovery visits to remove free product from an eight-inch recovery well. Free product was also removed using a vacuum truck and Global’s Vacuum Induced Product Recovery system (VIPR). Global prepared Free Product Recovery Status Reports and a Final Assessment Report (FAR) for submittal to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) in Cadillac, Michigan.
Source area soil was excavated and removed from the site in December 2010. Infrastructure associated with the diesel fuel dispensers affected by the excavation, including one section of diesel fuel lines, some fuel dispensers, and one footing for the canopy were removed and replaced subsequent to the excavation. The project is ongoing and the site will continue to be monitored. Free Product Status Reports and a Closure Report for the site will be prepared in the future.
