Compliance – Road Commission (SWPPP)

Budget $15,000.00

Global was contracted by a local Road Commission site. The Road Commission site serves as the county level road agency, which maintains more than 1,813 miles of roads and streets and over 250 signalized intersections. The Road Commission contains six sites across the county. Each site is responsible for its particular area. The sites all include maintenance garages, diesel and gasoline above-ground storage tanks, and storage barns. Each site houses plow trucks, graders, and other heavy machinery. The barns usually contain stored salt/sand. Global was contracted by the local Road Commission to complete the Industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.

All Road Commission sites are required to maintain compliance with their own Industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. Global performs bi-monthly inspections at all the six sites. The inspections include a full onsite inspection of the facilities including machinery checks, spill kit checks, and inspections to confirm the above-ground storage tank area is clean and in proper condition. Global performs visual inspections of the water within a rain event. Each inspection day is then noted and recorded in the Comments Section within the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan which is at each site.

Activities that take place at industrial facilities, such as material handling and storage, are often exposed to the weather. As runoff from rain or snowmelt comes into contact with these activities, it can pick up pollutants and transport them to a nearby storm sewer system or directly to a river, lake, or coastal water. The Road Commission is therefore required to have onsite the Industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
