Pre-Demolition Asbestos Survey
Global completed hazardous materials pre-demolition survey of the Former McKay Press Building and two additional buildings located in Midland, Michigan Dow Diamond Stadium District. The property formerly housed an approximately 72,000 square-foot industrial building with office space, warehouse, press room, and bindery areas. The former businesses operating the structures had relocated and the buildings were determined obsolete. Global was contracted by Kramer Management Group to complete the pre-demolition survey as part of a redevelopment plan to use Brownfield funding and Michigan business tax credits. The inspection included identification, sample collection, and quantification of suspect Asbestos Containing Material (ACM), as well as a listing of hazardous materials and their location. Bulk asbestos samples were collected by a Michigan Accredited Asbestos Inspector. In accordance with EPA recommended sampling guidelines, bulk asbestos samples were collected from each homogeneous area encountered. Following the inspection, asbestos samples were sent to a NVLAP accredited laboratory and analyzed using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM). Each accessible area of the building and areas within close proximity to the building were inspected for potentially hazardous materials such as PCBs, mercury-containing materials, and containers of regulated materials/waste.
